Meet Margaret, a remarkable woman with Down syndrome who is smart, witty and an inspiration to anyone who meets her, and Augusta, her eighty-five year old, no-nonsense mother who has been her guardian, confidante and lifelong advocate.
Experience the tense moments after Margaret's birth, the challenges she faced as a child, and her awe-inspiring life as an adult, including a jam-packed social calendar, colorful friends and numerous accomplishments. Get to know Mama, in all her exquisite southernness, whose emotional, quirky and sometimes hilarious relationship with Margaret provides an underlying current throughout each chapter.
This book is not just for parents, friends or family members of someone with Down syndrome - it's for anyone who appreciates all the goodness life has to offer.
The cat whisperer
posted on October 25, 2011Margaret came to visit this past weekend, and we watched the Auburn v. LSU game (ugh), but had some fun, too. We watched the game at Vivian’s house, and enjoyed spending time with her and her dogs – Nanny fell in love with Margaret, as do most animals, and wanted to sit at her feet all afternoon. I’m posting a photo of Margaret with our cat, Biscuit, who usually does not get anywhere near people she doesn’t know well…what can I say? Margaret just has that something special!
