Last week, Mama, Margaret, Brenda & Horace and I went to visit the Traylor’s dairy farm in Delta, Alabama. I met the Traylors when they brought their son to the Auburn speech clinic about two years ago. They have become good friends, and invited us to come and visit the family’s dairy farm about an hour and a half north of Auburn. Mama was really excited about going, since her father ran a dairy farm throughout her life. He raised Jersey cows, and the Traylors raise Holsteins (they give more milk), and of course, things have changed considerably since the 1930s and 40s, when my grandfather was milking cows. Anyway, we had a grand tour, got to pet some babies that were less then 24 hours old, and even saw the cows get milked with some pretty fancy equipment. So, thanks to Justin, Kimberly, Luke and the family for showing us such a good time, and for the cheese!

If you’re like a lot of people in this country, you tune in each week to watch the newest episode of “The Bachelor” or “The Bachelorette.” For some reason, Margaret has become very interested in watching these shows, and never misses an episode. She even calls me now to see if I’m watching. This is much to Augusta’s chagrin, I might add. Her words: “That’s the dumbest thing I’ve evah seen.” “Mama, it’s not dumb, he’s going to get engaged!” What’s really amazing, is that since Margaret started watching these shows, every time she has picked (early on) the person who has become the eventual “winner.” Now, how does she do that? Call it guessing, call it intuition, call it a special talent…whatever it is, Margaret has it. It has given me pause, though…maybe she knows something about human connections that the rest of us don’t. Even on a silly show like “The Bachelor,” she figures it out. That’s her way, and she shows me new things all the time, if only I pay attention.

As most of you know, Margaret LOVES her birthday. As usual, she started “reminding” me around November, which actually means she started talking about what she wanted to do, where she wanted to do it, and how many Big Girl drinks would be involved! So, this past weekend, Margaret and our sweet nephew Max, who is 8, came over to Auburn to celebrate. We went to Mikata, a Japanese Steak House, and Margaret had her celebratory Coors Light (her new beer of choice, not sure why). I’ve added a picture of the three of us here. Happy Birthday, Margaret, and I hope we have many more chances to have a Girl’s Night Out! Hope everyone is having a great 2012!

Margaret came to visit this past weekend, and we watched the Auburn v. LSU game (ugh), but had some fun, too. We watched the game at Vivian’s house, and enjoyed spending time with her and her dogs – Nanny fell in love with Margaret, as do most animals, and wanted to sit at her feet all afternoon. I’m posting a photo of Margaret with our cat, Biscuit, who usually does not get anywhere near people she doesn’t know well…what can I say? Margaret just has that something special!

Hi, all – it’s been a while since I’ve posted – seems like life has rushed by since this time last year. Our family has been very busy since that time, as well. Jake, Julie, Jake III and Max are on the second year of their cross-country adventure, we all spent five days in the Florida Keys in March, and then Mama turned 92 in April! Margaret has been busy with T.R. activities and Special Olympics and continues adding to her collection of medals. I’m posting a photo of the three of us at the Cracker Barrel (one of their favorite places to eat) in Opelika from Oct. 16, when my friends from California were here for the Auburn vs. Florida game. It was a beautiful weekend and we had a great time.
